LONDON – The private equity firms Apax Partners and JMI Equity agreed on Monday to buy Paradigm, a software company focused on the oil and natural gas industry, for $1 billion.

The acquisition will allow the two firms to take advantage of a push by energy companies to find new resources, as demand from emerging economies for both oil and natural gas continues to rise.

Paradigm, which has more than 700 clients across Europe, the Americas and the developing world, provides software that helps energy companies analyze seismic and other drilling data.
