Space: the final frontierThese are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worldsto seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Since its first appearance on the original “Star Trek” series in 1966, the starship Enterprise has become a symbol for space travel. Recently, an anonymous engineerclaimed that an approximation of this iconic ship could be built in the next two decades. But just how close is mankind to zipping through the stars at warp speed?

On the website, a self-proclaimed engineer who identifies himself only as “BTE-Dan” suggests that a working facsimile of the iconic ship could be built and launched over the next 20 to 30 years. The ship would require a few modifications, but would look a great deal like Captain Kirk‘s famous ship.

  1. The question isn’t can we build one. The question is “where the hell are we going to go in it?”. It is over 76 TRILLION miles to the edge of our SOLAR SYSTEM. It would take 150-200 years to get to the edge of just our solar system and back to earth. It will never happen. We are destined to live on earth, or our creator wouldn’t have made it to where our bodies shut down almost completely when faced with a zero G setting for longer than 10 months.

    • Hi there,
As for the question where are we going to go with it ? Well, we can go to many places. It is not about leaving our solar-system. It is about the untold amount of new technology which will yield from undertaking this endeavor. And as for your 150-200 year round trip estimate. I believe those numbers are way off. When the spaceship is build they will be utilizing all kinds of new ways to speed up and sustain high speed space travel. As for shutting down because our creator intended to, that is a logical fallacy. We are unable to breathe under water either. But thanks to technology, not only we are able to breathe underwater, but can live under water for months even years. Think Submarines.
I appreciate your comment, though. 🙂
