President Elect Barak Obama

It was a fun election.

WASHINGTON (AP) — His lease renewed in trying economic times, President Barack Obama claimed a second term from an incredibly divided electorate and immediately braced for daunting challenges and progress that comes only in fits and starts.

“We have fought our way back and we know in our hearts that for the United States of America, the best is yet to come,” Obama said.

Sarah Palin Shuck and Jive remarks

It’s crazy how politics can bring the worst out of people. Whether those remarks were intentional or not the fact remains that of course during these theatrical act of elections such acts of demagoguery  are employed to enraged and rally people.

Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin released a statement on her Facebook page accusing President Obama of engaging in “shuck and jive shtick” regarding last month’s attack in Benghazi, Libya.

For those who aren’t familiar with the phrase, “shuck and jive” is a racially-tingedexpression. According to the user-submitted Urban Dictionary, the term “originally referred to the intentionally misleading words and actions that African-Americans would employ in order to deceive racist Euro-Americans in power, both during the period of slavery and afterwards.”

As Politico points out, this isn’t the first time the phrase has come up and inspired controversy. Several years ago, Andrew Cuomo, then New York’s Attorney General, used the expression while campaigning for Hillary Rodham Clinton. “You can’t shuck and jive at a press conference. All those moves you can make with the press don’t work when you’re in someone’s living room.”
Cuomo was promptly blasted by CNN’s Roland Martin, who wrote, “‘Shucking and jiving’ have long been words used as a negative assessment of African Americans, along the lines of a ‘foot shufflin’ Negro.’ In fact, I don’t recall ever hearing the phrase used in reference to anyone white.”

Ancient ‘Predator X’ Sea Monster Gets Official Name – Yahoo! News

Ancient ‘Predator X’ Sea Monster Gets Official Name – Yahoo! News.

I guess the Engineers seeding life on Earth is out of the Equation.

It’s official: A giant, marine reptile that roamed the seas roughly 150 million years ago is a new species, researchers say. The animal, now named Pliosaurus funkei, spanned about 40 feet (12 meters) and had a massive 6.5-foot-long (2 m) skull with a bite four times as powerful as Tyrannosaurus rex.

“They were the top predators of the sea,” said study co-authorPatrick Druckenmiller, a paleontologist at the University of Alaska Museum. “They had teeth that would have made a T. rex whimper.”

Combined with other fossil finds, the newly discovered behemoth skeletons of P. funkei paint a picture of an ancient Jurassic-era ocean filled with giant predators.

In 2006, scientists unearthed two massive pliosaur skeletons inSvalbard, Norway, a string of islands halfway between Europe and the North Pole. The giant creatures, one of which was dubbed Predator X at the time, looked slightly different from other pliosaurs discovered in England and France over the last century and a half.

Lance Armstrong .. The Once Great.

Shocker !

Page after page of damning details.
They came from computer records, books, media reports and, maybe most significantly, the people Lance Armstrong used to train alongside and celebrate with. The people he used to call his friends.
Hit with a lifetime ban and the loss of all seven of his Tour deFrance titles, Armstrong challenged the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency to give him the names of all his accusers. The agency obliged, listing 26, including 11 former teammates.
Armstrong said he wanted to see the hard evidence that he was a doper, and USADA gave him that, too, in the form of a 200-page tome filled with vivid recollections — the hotel rooms riders transformed into makeshift blood-transfusion centers, the way Armstrong’s former wife rolled cortisone pills into foil and handed them out to the cyclists.
The report, released Wednesday, depicts what USADA chief Travis Tygart called “the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program that sport has ever seen.”

Teen allegedly bullied before TV interview about bullying | The Lookout – Yahoo! News.

This is absolutely disgusting.

A young man taking a stand against bullying at his school was apparently roughed up by fellow students as a local TV crew was preparing to interview him.

“The student came up to me and pushed me out of the way and said, ‘What are you recording?'” Preston Deener told WHAG. “All of a sudden, the student was chasing me and I needed some help.”
The incident happened as WHAG cameras and reporter Katie Kyros were preparing to interview Preston, a sophomore at Brunswick High School in Frederick, Md.
Kyros described the events:
“I had my camera fully set up. I was getting ready to interview Preston and his friend, and the boys just didn’t seem to care. A group of three boys came up, and one of them just lunged toward Preston, started pushing him and hitting him in the head so quickly. I was shocked. They didn’t even care that I was standing there and yelling about it. … It was all on camera. They have no shame about it.”

Scientists are trying to identify the strange black “spidery” objects in these images

Someone alert Ziggy Stardust, there appear to be spiders on Mars.

Strange, black objects seen from 200 miles above the surface of Mars are generating interest and speculation that the unidentified objects could be anything from geysers to sunbathing colonies of microorganisms.

NPR compares several photos of the objects, including one taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter on Jan. 27, which appears to show, “little black flecks dotting the ridges, mostly on the sunny side, like sunbathing spiders sitting in rows.”
The objects were first spotted in 1998. Interestingly, they appear when the surface of Mars begins to warm, appearing in the same location most of the time. And then, when the Martian winter approaches, they disappear with the same precise regularity. The images have been brought into greater detail by Michael Benson, in his book “Planetfall: New Solar System Visions.”

The Effeminization of men in South Korea-Nader Nazemi

Talk about changing sexual orientations and the effeminization of society.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Cho Won-hyuk stands in front of his bedroom mirror and spreads dollops of yellow-brown makeup over his forehead, nose, chin and cheeks until his skin is flawless.

Then he goes to work with a black pencil, highlighting his eyebrows until they’re thicker, bolder.

“Having a clean, neat face makes you look sophisticated and creates an image that you can handle yourself well,” the 24-year-old college student said. “Your appearance matters, so when I wear makeup on special occasions, it makes me more confident.”

Cho’s meticulous efforts to paint the perfect face are not unusual in South Korea. This socially conservative, male-dominated country, with a mandatory two-year military conscription for men, has become the male makeup capital of the world.

South Korean men spent $495.5 million on skincare last year, accounting for nearly 21 percent of global sales, according to global market research firm Euromonitor International. That makes it the largest market for men’s skincare in the world, even though there are only about 19 million men in South Korea.

It wasn’t always this way. The ideal South Korean man used to be rough and tough.

Things began to change in the late 1990s, when the South Korean government relaxed a ban on Japanese cultural goods, exposing South Koreans to different ideas on male beauty, including popular comics featuring pretty, effeminate men.
