Such a moving story. Dogs are Man’s best friend. 

About 13,500 feet above the ground, among the snow-capped peaks of Mount Bierstadt in Colorado, Scott Washburn and his wife, Amanda, found an abandoned, dying German shepherd dog.

Washburn and his wife this past Saturday, Aug. 11, were on a leisurely hike up Mount Bierstadt in Clear Creek County, a 14,000-foot peak near Denver that is categorized as a “14er” because, as Washburn said, “the peak is over 14,000 feet high and considered a Class 3, meaning it is not the most difficult – but it’s too difficult for a dog to be on it or an inexperienced person.

Let me offer a more straightforward explanation of why investors have left the stock market: it has been a losing proposition. An entire generation of investors hasn’t made a buck.

“The cult of equity is dying,” Bill Gross, the founder of Pimco, wrote in his monthly letter last week.

“Like a once bright green aspen turning to subtle shades of yellow then red in the Colorado fall, investors’ impressions of ‘stocks for the long run’ or any run have mellowed as well,” Mr. Gross wrote. His letter came after he had sent a Twitter post that read: “Boomers can’t take risk. Gen X and Y believe in Facebook but not its stock. Gen Z has no money.”

Consider this: Of 878 students at 18 high schools across 11 different states surveyed by the Financial Literacy Group, three-quarters of them said they agreed with this statement: “The stock market is rigged mostly to benefit greedy Wall Street bankers.”

This is pretty scary stuff. Every disgruntled clown can get guns like getting candy from a store and go on a shopping spree. What worries me are the homegrown terrorists. There should be stricter control on guns. 

 One week after Colorado’s movie theater shooting, Maryland cops arrested a heavily armed man who told his employer he was a “joker” who was going to “blow everyone up.”

Police said today they believe they “thwarted a massacre.”

The suspect was being dismissed from his job and twice gave threatening statements to his supervisor, police said.

He was quoted as telling his employer, “I’m a joker, I’m going to load up my guns and blow everyone up,” police said.

The man accused of killing 12 in a movie theater in Aurora could face the death penalty, a Colorado prosecutor says.James Holmes, 24, made his first court appearance Monday morning in a Colorado courtroom. Police and prosecutors accuse him of killing 12 and injuring 58 in a shooting rampage during the premiere of the latest Batman film, “The Dark Knight Rises,” in Aurora, CO Friday morning.

Police say Holmes has refused to cooperate with investigators. Monday morning he appeared before a judge with his attorney and was caught on film in public for the first time since the atrocities occurred three days earlier. Holmes sat quietly in prison garb before the judge and remained silent during a brief hearing. The court concluded with the decision that Holmes will be formally charged one week later on July 30. He is expected to remain locked up at the Arapahoe Detention Center until his next court date.
During his short court appearance, Holmes showcased a dyed red hairdo, an allusion some have suggested to the Joker character from the Batman series. According to authorities, Holmes told the police that he was the Joker once detained after the Friday morning massacre.

Sources within the facility tell the New York Daily News that Holmes has not shown any remorse since being booked last week and “thinks he’s acting in a movie.”
“He was spitting at the door and spitting at the guards,” a just-released inmate added to the Post. “He’s spitting at everything. Dude was acting crazy.”

This incident should be studied and the reasons that triggers an apparently normal person to commit such a heinous crime revealed. We all have a bit of evil with us, but to actually unleash it or to set is loose is something that never really happens. DENVER (AP) — James Eagen Holmes came from a well-tendedSan Diego enclave of two-story homes with red-tiled roofs, where neighbors recall him as a clean-cut, studious young man of sparing words.

Tall and dark-haired, he stared clear-eyed at the camera in a 2004 high school yearbook snapshot, wearing a white junior varsity soccer uniform — No. 16. The son of a nurse, Arlene, and a software company manager, Robert, James Holmes was a brilliant science scholar in college.

In the age of widespread social media, no trace of Holmes could be found on Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Twitter or anywhere on the Web. Either he never engaged or he scrubbed his trail.

A longtime neighbor in San Diego, where Holmes grew up, remembers only a “shy guy … a loner” from a churchgoing family. In addition to playing soccer at Westview High School, he ran cross country.

The bookish demeanor concealed an unspooling life. Holmes struggled to find work after graduating with highest honors in spring 2010 with a neuroscience degree from the University of California, Riverside, said the neighbor, retired electrical engineer Tom Mai.

They should apply the same level of security at Movie Theater entrances as they do at airports and body scanners and pat-downs. This is insanity.

Movie-going may never be the same.

Since the days of silent and black and white films, theaters have always been a place for Americans to escape – from economic downturns, the stresses of war, and even from the heat.

But the tragic shooting at a movie theater outside Denver early Friday morning may forever change the carefree way movie fans buy buckets of popcorn and pick their seats. The shooter who opened fire on a theater packed with avid Batman fans took advantage of excitement for high-octane special effects to delay the reaction to his horrific actions.

The big questions: How will this change theater chains security protocol? (Will we see metal detectors, like at the airport?) Will theaters change their approach to midnight screenings, which usually draw the most avid fans? What about costumes? Fans attending midnight screenings, especially those for comic book superhero films, often dress inspired by characters from the movie. (Police say the suspect was wearing a bullet-proof vest, riot helmet, and was carrying a gas mask rifle, and handgun when he was arrested. Would someone with that kind of gear been apprehended sooner if no one else was wearing Batman gear?)

(CNN) — At least 14 people were killed and 50 wounded when a gunman opened fire during an early Friday morning screening of the new Batman movie at an Aurora, Colorado, theater, Police Chief Dan Oates told reporters.

The heavily armed suspect, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was apprehended by police in a rear parking lot of the theater, Frank Fania, a police spokesman, told CNN. The suspect was not immediately identified, though Fania said he was believed to be in his early 20s
